Kalam honoured with King Charles II Medal

New Delhi, May 14 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam has been honoured with the prestigious ''King Charles II Medal'' by the Royal Society of London in recognition of his extraordinary contribution in the field of Science and Technology.

Dr Kalam had become the second recipient of the award after Emperor Akihito of Japan, who received it in 1998.

''This is in recognition of the tremendous contribution as a scientist and your roadmap to your country to make India a developed nation by the year 2020 through the application of Science and technology. We value this and have decided to honour you with the prestigious medal,'', said the citation.

Rashtrapti Bhawan sources said the President had accepted the Medal.

India will get nuclear material from Moon:Kalam

Ambur, Tamil Nadu, Sep 4: President A P J Abdul Kalam today said India would soon compete with other nations in bringing nuclear materials from the moon to the earth.India would send a 50-kg satellite to the moon by 2007 end to study its characteristics and geology. ''As the moon has got fantastic nuclear material to generate nuclear energy, there is big competition among nations to bring it to Earth. India will join the competition,'' he said during an interactive.....
