Hisar sizzles beyond 43 degrees

Chandigarh, May 14 (UNI) Hisar in Haryana, situated along the Rajasthan border, sizzled beyond 43 degrees while the mercury rose to 40 degrees at several places in the Northwest region.

Heat wave conditions built up in Hisar where a maximum temperature of 43.2 degrees was recorded. People mosly styaed indoors in the area to avoid the scorching heat.

In Punjab, the maximum temperature touched 40 degrees in Amritsar, Ludhiana while in Patiala it was recorded at 39.5 degrees.

Chandigarh registered a maximum temperature of 38.2, Ambala 38.3 and Karnal in Haryana 38.4.

In Shimla, the mercury was recorded at 24.5 degrees. In Sundernagar in Himachal Pradesh, it was 24.5, Bhuntar 31.78 and 24 in Kalpa.

According to the Met office, there is a possibility of light showers in Himachal Pradesh and dust storm accompanied by showers in Punjab and Haryana in the next 24 hours.

Raj: 16 families return into Khalsa Panth

Sriganganagar, May 21: Amid row over the activities of Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, as many as 16 families of nearby 3-H Chhoti village, followers of the Dera mission, have returned into the Khalsa Panth. These families were baptised into the Khalsa Panth in a brief religious function held in the village gurdwara on Saturday evening.
