Gujarat police files investigation report in SC

New Delhi, May 14 (UNI) The Gujarat police today filed its investigation report in the Supreme Court in sealed cover giving details of action taken so far against the accused persons including three senior IPS officers allegedly involved in fake encounter in Gujarat.

The report is believed to have stated that so far seven accused persons have been arrested.All of them have confessed their involvement in crime under Sec164 Cr P C in which Sohrabuddin and his wife Kauser bi were killed in November 2005 after they were pulled out from a bus going from Hyderabad to Sangli.

A bench comprising Justices Tarun Chatterjee and P K Balasubramanyan will hear the case tomorrow.Regarding the transfer of IG CID Geeta Johri who was earlier in charge of the investigation in the case of fake killings, the Gujarat police is reported to have said, in Gujarat preliminary inquiry is conducted by one officer while the investigation in the case is carried out by other police officers and there was nothing wrong in her transfer. But now she has been brought back as head of the investigating team as Gujarat police has nothing to hide.

The report has also expressed the possibility of more arrests being made in the case as senior police officers from Andhra Pradesh are also under the scanner for their alleged involvement in the case.

According to Gujarat police Sohrabuddin was involved in large number of criminal cases including one under TADA and was suspected to be a Lashker-e-Tayyeba militant.

The then DIG ATS, Gujarat, D G Vanzara, the then SP ATS, Rajkumar Pandian and SP Alwar, Rajasthan, M N Dinesh are already in jail for fake encounter. The only eye witness to the encounter Tulsi Ram Prajapati was also killed in a simmilar fashion to destroy evidence.

Gujarat is opposing CBI inquiry in the case while UPA government at the Centre is backing the petitioner, Rubabbuddin Sheikh, who is demanding a CBI inquiry of the death of his brother and sister in law in fake encounters. The petitioner have also filed an application praying to the court to direct the state of Gujarat to bring back Rajnish Ray,DIG,who had arrested three senior IPS officers as head of the investigating team in place of Githa Johri.

The court will consider his application tomorrow.
