Court reserves order on Shahabuddin`s plea

Patna, May 14 (UNI) Patna High Court today reserved its order on a writ petition filed by incarcerated RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin .

Justice Shyam Kishore Sharma reserved his judgement after completing the hearing on the petition in which Md Shahabuddin sought the merger of five FIRs registered against him on a single day.

Referring to legal provisions the MP`s counsel argued that lodging of five FIRs on a single police raid was not justified. On April 24, 2005, the police had raided the house of RJD MP at his native Pratappur village in Siwan district and lodged five different FIRs against him.

Opposing the prayer, the government counsel said raids were conducted throughout the day and all offences were different in nature and took place at different time. Hence, five different FIRs had been lodged.

He added that in some of the cases charges had already been framed and hearing in those cases were on in trial court.
