AP Police distributes TVs to tribals

Warangal, May 14 (UNI)The district police authorities today distributed 21 inch Television sets and DTH systems to 24 village committees,many of which were in the tribal villages.

At a function organised here,the sets were handed over to members of the village committees dwelling in remote corners of the district in agency mandals of Eturunagaram, Tadvai, Mangapet, Mulug, Govindaraopet, Venkatapur, Kothaguda, Gudur, Nallabelli, Chityal and Maddur. The tribal villages remain cut off from the mainstream.

The idea behind providing the TV sets ws that besides entertainment, the villagers would benefit from the programmes on a wide range of issues like agriculture, health awareness and education for students.

Speaking on the occasion, Warangal range DIG K Laxman Mohan said'the people living in far off corners should know what is happening around them, how fast the world is changing and how the people were benefitting from the initiatives of individual efforts and government schemes.

Ice 'Shivalingam' formed at Amarnath cave

Srinagar, Jun 10: The ice 'Shivalingam (phallic symbol of Lord Shiva)' at the holy cave shrine of Amarnath has formed fully till now, according to an official statement. Subject to the weather conditions, the annual two-month-long pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir would commence simultaneously from both traditional Pahalgam and shorter Baltal routes on June 30 to end on August 28. The statement comes in the wake of a religious controversy.....
