Another sugarcane farmer commits suicide in K'taka

Gulbarga, May 14 (UNI) Unable to sell his sugarcane crop due to the glut, one more farmer committed suicide in Karnataka today.

The farmer Mallappa Pujari (45) hanged himself from a tree in his fields at Kadani Village, about 10 km from here. Having borrowed the money to raise his sugarcane crop, he could not sell his crop even days after harvesting it to pay off his debt, his family sources said.

Another sugar cane farmer had committed suicide in Narayanpur Village Jeawargi taluq in this district on May 9.

On April 11, last, nine sugarcane farmers had attempted mass suicide in front of Tahasildar office in Jewargi in protest against the attitude of a sugar factory which had refused to lift their sugar cane.

Rescued leopard vanishes into adjoining Nashik farm

Nashik, Feb 22 : A rescued leopard that had fallen into a well in Nasik's Dober village, has vanished into an adjoining sugarcane farm. The leopard fell into the well while chasing a dog. The dog, which also fell into the well, died. The leopard was rescued after a tedious rescue operation lasting eight hours, said Ranjan Gaekwad, a forest official. It was the fifth time a leopard had entered a residential area in Nasik. ast year, forest officials captured two leopards.....
