Maya camp celebrates; Cong may extend support

Lucknow, May 11: The Congress may extend outside support to theMayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party which is set to emerge as a clearwinner in the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.

As per the latest trends available, the BSP was way ahead of theruling Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party in the 403-memberassembly.

Sources close to Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee(UPCC) told UNIhere that though the final proposal would be sent to BSP supremoMayawati after the announcement of the final tally, the party wascontemplating giving outside support to the BSP.

Meanwhile, the state BSP headquarters was abuzz with acitivitiesas party workers, smelling victory, took a headlong plunge intocelebration mode.'' The results are on the expected lines and the partyis likely to form a majority government in the state,'' BSP generalsecretary Satish Chandra Mishra said.

'UPA must formally approach Mayawati for support'

New Delhi, May 21: The CPI today asked the Congress and UPA leadership to formally approach BSP supremo Mayawati for seeking support for its Presidential nominee in order to prevent any ''communally-inclined person'' from occupying the Rashtrapati Bhawan in July. ''This is important and necessary to ensure the election of a proper person to the country's highest constitutional post,'' CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said at a press briefing on the party's National Executive.....
