Security at Kerala airports tightened

Thiruvananthapuram, May 1: All the three International airports in Kerala were put on high alert after an anonymous caller claimed that bombs had been placed on Kerala-bound flights from the Gulf region.

The call was received at a police station in Mangalore, which informed the Central Industrial Security Force, manning security at the airports, a senior security official told sources.

Security was beefed up at all these airports following the threat. Elaborate screening of all passengers inside the airports was going on and vehicles arriving there were being checked.

However, the call turned out to be a hoax.

Security personnel carried out an intense search in Air India Express and Qatar Airways that landed at the International airport here. Later, the two flights left for their destinations.

Security at the Nedumbassery International airport and the Kozikode International airport had been tightened.

The Doha-bound Qatar Airways flight left Thiruvananthapuram airport after a thorough check.
