Farmers in Haryana use SMS service for agri problems

Chandigarh, Apr 29 (UNI) The SMS service for immediate redressal of agri-related problems of the farmers in the state, introduced by the Haryana Agriculture Department early this year has been a success with the farmers asking a wide range of questions from experts.

The success of this service was recently reviewed in a state level meeting of the Kisan Call Centre and Mass Media Committee held under the chairmanship of the Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Mr S P Sharma.

Mr Sharma today directed the agriculture department to utilise this service in such a way so that a large number of farmers could be provided with speedy solutions for their agri-related problems.

He said that this free of cost service was launched on February 2 and the farmers could send their SMS to the mobile number 9915862026 for immediate redressal of their queries.

Giving further information, he said that the department had received 800 SMS related to this service till date, out of which 599 SMS queries were concerned with agricultural problems, 192 were horticulture related, four fisheries related, three animal husbandry related and two were forestry related.

He added that the questions sent to the department through this service were being answered by the concerned specialists and officials within 24 to 48 hours telephonically.
