Bangaon, Apr 29 (UNI) Police are in search of the miscreants who abducted Prabir Mandal, on Jessore Road yesterday, police sources said here today.
The victim, a resident of Gazipur under Gaighata police station in North 24 Parganas was kidnapped but later freed by the miscreants.
Police arrested an associate of the kidnappers, who made an attempt to collect a motorbike, a broken helmet and a sleeper, belonging to the victim, which were left by the roadside.
Preliminary investigation revealed that they allegedly kidnapped Prabir to recover money from his nephew Raju, who had allegedly 'cheated' him of Rs 60,000.
Meanwhile, intercepting telephone conversation between the miscreants and some of Trinamool Congress men, police suspected that the kidnappers might be associated with the latter, a senior police officer said, adding that the police was investing the matter.
Mr Mandal later, lodged a complaint with the Gaighata police station, alleging that he was kidnapped while he was on way to Gaighata from Hashpur.
He stated that he was physically assaulted, police added.
