Raymond to soon come up with Women's collection

Kolkata, Apr 20: Raymond Limited plans to release its first range of women's ready-made collection soon, Deputy Director General V V Bhagwat said here today.

Speaking on furthering its future plans, Mr Bhagwat said the company plans on setting up about 1000 retail stores in India, including many in interior areas like Malda, Purulia and Krishnagar in West Bengal, within the next five years.

With its biggest market in the northern region, Raymond Limited is aiming the large consumer mass in the East, with Kolkata being the central point, said Eastern Zone Assistant Retail Manager Mr Sadashiv, adding that there has been an increase in the retail market turnover by approximately 10-15 per cent in the last fiscal in the eastern zone.

''We expect a much larger increase of about 35 per cent by 2008 with more than 100 shops to come up in the zone soon,'' Assistant Manager of Retail (East) Amitabh Sadashiv said here at the opening of its new showroom in one of the prime areas of south Kolkata.

Speaking at the inauguration of its retail store in Gariahat, in South Kolkata, Mr Bhagwat said this was a strategic location for its new retail store because of the big mass of shoppers who visit the Gariahat market area every day.

Asking whether Bombay Dyeing's showroom located very near to it will pose a competition, Mr Sadashiv said, ''Bombay Dyeing is not our competitor!''

While unveiling the 25th showroom in India which is also the 16th in the city, Mr Bhagwat said that they are planning to set up five more retail stores in the state, including two in the city, within the next six months, including one at Mani Square in Ultadanga. ''Besides the 'Eden' collection, which is the fabric for women's wear, we plan on introducing a new range of women's ready-made wear within the next year,'' said Mr Sadashiv.

With fabrics made especially for their summer collection, including 'bamboo fabric', the Raymond DGM said they have a whole range of linen, cotton, Teri wool, and polyester whisker fabrics in their new retail outlet.

This showroom built on 4000 sq feet plot is a strategically located shop with its main shop on the first floor, with only its display windows on its ground floor, a feature which they believe will attract more customers, especially because of the flyover.

''We believe in quality, we do not look for immediate sales but for customer satisfaction,'' said Mr Bhagwat, adding, ''We always have a good turnover each year and it always keeps increasing, so we are also looking into extending our retail outlets into the interior areas of West Bengal and Bihar.'' On asking about their comparative market in ready-made wear and fabrics, Mr Bhagwat said, ''Our company is stronger in the fabric market, but with the increase in demand for ready-made wears, now also have a good market in this section.'' The new Raymond's showroom has a wide range of ready-made wear, including its Park Avenue formal wear, Parx Smart Casuals and the Color Plus Premium Casuals, said Raymond Apparel Limited Sales Manager Rana Roy.

Speaking on how their fabrics change with the seasons in the country, Mr Bhagwat said that the company always showcases its garments and fabrics according to the season, with its turnover reaching its highest level between August and December, ie the autumn-winter season.
