Scribe arrested in extortion case

Mumbai, Apr 18 (UNI) A scribe of a local daily 'Vividh Samachar' was arrested yesterday alongwith his accomplice for demanding Rs 30,000 as extortion money from a stall owner at Dongri in southcentral Mumbai, police said today.

Police said accused Sohan Jain, a reporter of Vividh Samachar newspaper and another accused Balu Jagannath Naval had demanded Rs 30,000 from a stall owner Gunasingh Sunder Nadar (34) to allow him to do business at the spot and threatened that if he fails to meet their demands, they will write false articles against him.

Mr Nadar lodged a complaint with Dongri police and the duo were arrested late last night, police added.

Police have registered a case of extortion against the accused who will be produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate today.
