Arjun defends Rahul's statement on Bangladesh

Ranchi, Apr 18: Human Resources Development minister Arjun Singh today &13;defended Mr Rahul Gandhi's recent controversial statement on Bangladesh terming &13;it as 'naujawan ka vichar' (opinion of youth).

Mr Singh said Mr Gandhi's remarks did not smack of any anti-social overtones.

Addressing a press conference here at the Raj Bhavan, Mr Singh said he had &13;witnessed the creation of Bangladesh and was well aware of what had happened &13;then.

Regarding the young Gandhi's another statement during campaigning in Uttar &13;Pradesh that the demolition of Babri Masjid would not have occurred if his &13;family members were at the helm of affairs, Mr Singh toed the general Congress &13;line saying he too had made such comments on various occasions.

He claimed that the Congress would gain maximum in Uttar Pradesh election but &13;declined to offer any figure on seats expected to be bagged.

No consular access to indians in Pak jail: Pranab

New Delhi, Mar 14:  The government today informed the Lok Sabha that at least 92 Indian civilian prisoners in Pakistani jails have yet not been given consular access."Besides 390 fishermen and 149 civilian prisoners and 74 PoWs are still languishing in Pakistani jails," External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in a written reply.The minister was asked whether the government had any reports of inhuman treatment meted out to Indian prisoners in Paksitan.The minsiter said Indian prisoners released by Pakistan had reported.....
