JK: PDP, Tarigami seek probe into civilian killings

Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar, Apr 17: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a ruling coalition &13; partner in Jammu and Kashmir, today demanded a thorough probe into the killing &13; of two civilians allegedly in an unprovoked shoot-out by the police at Kakapora &13; in Pulwama on Sunday.

In a statement here, a PDP spokesman condemned the incident and demanded a &13; thorough probe into the circumstances that led to the loss of the precious &13; lives.

''At a time when the security situation is fast improving, such tragic &13; incidents of highhandedness fuel the public outrage and rightly so,'' he &13; added.

The spokesman said the police personnel involved in the killings must be &13; immediately brought to justice to restore public faith.

He also condemned the attack on IRCON engineers near Sangam yesterday in which &13; one policeman was killed.

''Such incidents are the most unfortunate acts of violence as the engineers &13; were performing their duties and had nothing to do with any politics,'' the &13; spokesman added.

CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami also condemned the killing of two &13; civilians, Farooq Ahmad Wani and Shakoor Ahmad Dar, during a firing incident at &13; Kakapora in Pulwama on April 15.

He demanded a magisterial inquiry into the incident.

Describing it as a barbaric act, Mr Tarigami said such killings would only &13; increase the miseries of the people and add to the number of widows in the &13; society.

''Whosoever is involved in these innocent killings should be punished severely &13; as per the law,'' he added.

The CPI(M) leader expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and prayed for &13; eternal peace to the departed souls.

He also condemned the killing of a personal security officer of IRCON &13; engineers and described the attack as a heinous act.

These killings would hamper the development activities in the state, Mr &13; tarigami said, adding these acts were aimed at sabotaging the dream envisioned &13; by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for making Jammu and Kashmir a prosperous &13; state.
