Thane: Mob ransacks office of Torrent power co

Thane, Apr 8: A total of 59 persons of an irate mob which attacked the office of Torrent, a private power distribution company, were arrested by the police on charges of rioting, at Bhiwandi in this district.

Police said the mob, agitated over the frequent load-shedding, ransacked the office of Torrent at around 2200 hrs yesterday. The company supplies power to the powerloom town of Bhiwandi.

The police immediately swung into action and arrested the members of the mob and registered cases against them. The arrested were later released after imposing a fine on them.

The situation in the powerloom town is now under control but still tense. Police are on alert to avert any further untoward incident, police added.

Patna, Apr 9 (ANI): Police resorted to baton charge to control a mob that had turned violent after a road mishap in Patna.Trouble broke out after a speeding school bus knocked down a woman who was travelling with her brother on a motor cycle.Soon, an enraged crowd of people gathered at the spot began damaging the windowpanes of the bus.The police had to baton charge and also fire a few tear gas shells to disperse the infuriated.....
