Rally against delimitation at Wokha in Kohima

Kohima, Apr 8: A massive rally, organised by the people of Wokha town here today rejected the draft working papers on delimitation and demanded safeguard of the five Assembly constituencies in the district.

According to Lotha Hoho sources here, people from various parts of the district converged at Wokha, about 80 km from here, and demonstrated with placards and banners, saying ''No status quo, 2002 in letter and spirit''.

The rallyists have unanimously resolved to demand protectioin of their five Assembly constituencies in the district as provided by the Delimitation Commissioin Act, 2002 based on the 2001 census.

The rally rejected the delimitation barriers for the existing four Assembly constituencies, which was submitted recently to the Delimitation Commission of India.

The rally was chaired by Lotha Hoho General Secretary Tansathung Jami.

Meanwhile, the Rengma Hoho at Tseminyu under Kohima district organised a public rally demanding full implementation of the Delimitation Act 2002 in Tseminyu Sub-division.

The rally has prepared a memorendum to the Chairman of the Delimitation Commission of India and submitted through the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima.

In a statement here yesterday, Nagaland Chief Secretary Lalhuma said the state government has requested the Centre to carry out fresh census here, considering what it called the ''abnormally and phenomenally'' high growth rates in some areas as projected in the 2001 census.
