MP: Prohibitory orders after communal violence

Rajgarh (MP), Apr 8: Prohibitory orders under section 144 had been clamped after two people died and more than 20 were injured during a clash between two communities last night in this district's Talen township, police said today.

More than 20 people were injured when members of two communities clashed with each other over a trifle issue. Two people succumbed to their injuries at Shujalpur hospital in Shajapur.

Two seriously injured were sent to Hamidia hospital in Bhopal for treatment, while 18 others were admitted to local hospital.

Police had lobbed tear gas shells and fired gunshots in air to disperse the crowd last night. Additional police force had been deployed and the situation was under control.

People were being prevented from gathering at a place, markets were closed and streets wore a deserted look.

Meanwhile, curfew has been lifted in this district's Narsinghgarh tehsil headquarters in view of improving situation.

Curfew was imposed on April 2 in Narsinghgarh following tension in the wake of stone-pelting while a religious procession was being taken out and subsequent arson targeting shops and vehicles. Three people were killed in the communal disturbances.

A report from the state capital said, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh would visit Narsinghgarh and Talen towns tomorrow.

In a statement, the party said Mr Singh would meet affected families in Narsinghgarh and Talen. He would also assess the damages suffered by people in the incidents of arson.

130 people dead in Rajasthan floods, Govt extends help

New Delhi, Aug 28: The Centre has extended all possible assistance to Rajasthan where as many as 130 people have died in the recent floods of which 103 were in Barmer district.Three naval teams have been sent to the state along with two Indian Air Force helicopters.
