&13;Jalgaon, Apr 8: A keen contest seems likely in the by-polls to the Jalgaon &13;and Erandol Lok Sabha constituencies tomorrow, as the Congress and its ally NCP &13;make efforts to dethrone the BJP which considers these its strongholds and has &13;won the former four times consecutively.
In Jalgaon, where 11 candidates &13;are in the fary, the main contest is expected to be between BJP's Haribhau &13;Jawale and Dr Arjun Bhangale of the Congress and between Dr B S Patil of the &13;BJP, a sitting MLA and Vasantrao More of NCP in Erandol.
The by-polls &13;were necessitated owing to the the expulsion of BJP MPs Y G Mahajan and M K Anna &13;Patil from Jalgaon and Erandol respectively from the Lok Sabha after being &13;implicated in the infamous 'Cash-for-Query' scandal.
The Jalgaon Lok &13;Sabha constituency comprises of Jalgaon, Jamner, Bhusaval, Yaval, Raver and &13;Edlabad assembly constituencies. The total electorate strength in the Lok Sabha &13;constituency is 12,94,751 of whom 6,26,716 are women.
Mr Jawale is a &13;former MLA while Dr Bhangale is close to NCP's Suresh Jain who enjoys a &13;tremendous clout here. Dr Bhangale incidentally had quit the NCP to join the &13;Congress.
Cinestar-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, BJP state chief &13;Nitin Gadkari, Shiv Sena Working President Uddhav Thackeray, senior BJP leader &13;Gopinath Munde, TV-star-turned-politician Smriti Irani were among those who &13;campaigned for Jawale.
Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Suresh Jain &13;were among those spearheading the support for Dr Bhangale.
The neighbouring Erandol Lok Sabha constituency comprises of Chalisgaon, Parola, &13;Ambalner, Chopda, Erandol and Pachora assembly constituencies. The electorate &13;comprises 12,57,960 of whom 6,18,412 are women. Five candidates are in the fray &13;here but the main contest is expected to be between BJP's B S Patil and NCP's &13;Vasantrao More.
BJP President Rajnath Singh, Uddhav Thackeray, Mr &13;Gadkari, Mr Munde and party leader Eknath Khadse were among those who campaigned &13;for Dr Patil while the NCP campaign was spearheaded by the Chief Minister, &13;Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil, NCP supremo and Union Agriculture Minister &13;Sharad Pawar's nephew Ajit Pawar and party leader Babanrao Pachpute.
Mr &13;Jain had demanded a ticket from Erandol constituency but NCP high command &13;decided to give the ticket to Vasantrao More, which has aggrieved him and he is &13;now supporting Congress candidate, Bhangale in Jalgaon, raising questions about &13;his loyalty to his party.
Load-shedding and suicides by farmers are major &13;issues in these constituencies.
