Chennai, Apr 8: Elections to the State Cooperatives would be in June this
year, as promised in the budget Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi
said. Addressing a public meeting here last night to highlight the
various welfare measures announced in the budget, he said the cooperative polls
were essential to maintain the vibrancy of democracy at grassroot
levels.
The polls would also provide an opportunity for those who did not get a chance to contest the Assembly or the local body polls to serve the society, he added.
Flaying the previous AIADMK regime for not conducting the Cooperative elections, which were long overdue, Mr Karunanidhi said ''as promised in the budget, the DMK Government will hold the polls to State Cooperatives in June this year''.
