Muslims not minority community in UP: HC

Lucknow, Apr 5: In a significant order, Allahabad High Court today ruled that Muslims in Uttar Pradesh are not a minority community.

The ruling assumes significance, especially in the backdrop of the impending state Assembly elections.

A single judge bench of Justice S N Srivastava passed this order on a writ petition filed by the managing committee of Anjuman Noorul Islam, Ghazipur.

The court observed that the state government should treat Muslims as a non-minority community.

UP: Court declares ex SP MLA 'absconder'

Allahabad, July 21: A local court today declared former Samajwadi Party MLA Mohammad Ashraf as 'absconder' after he failed to produce himself before it for a hearings. One Yaqoob Khan had lodged kidnapping and dacoity cases against the former SP MLA. However, he remained absent in the court proceedings. Superintendent of Police Jugal Kishore said a notice had been pasted at Ashraf's residence under section 82 that if the SP leader further remained.....

UP: Rs 5 lakh missing from UCO Bank branch

Allahabad, July 17: Five lakh rupees found missing from the Municipal Corporation branch of UCO Bank here. According to police, when cash kept in the cash box was counted yesterday morning, some bundles of Rs 500 were found missing. This created panic in the bank and police were called. Later, SP City Jugul Kishore reached the place. The police suspects the hand of some bank employee in the case. Investigations.....
