CPI promises pro-people government in UP

Lucknow, Apr 2: Calling upon the people of Uttar Pradesh to vote out the anti-people Samajwadi Party government and to prevent the ''opportunistic'' and ''communal forces coming from to power, the Communist Party of India(CPI) today urged the voters to support the party and the Janmorcha alliance for a secular and democratic government in the state.

Releasing the CPI election manifesto here, party's central polit bureau member Atul Kumar Anjan and senior leader Ashok Mishra criticised the BJP, Congress and the SP for ignoring the plight of the common people.

In their 16- page poll manifesto, the party promised to end the miseries of the farmers, weavers and common man by implementation of the central sponsored schemes. The Party also assured the people to control crime, effective by implement land and police reforms, reservation for women and free and compuslory education for the children.

The manifesto further said they will spearhead reforms to prevent criminals from contesting the polls,strengthen the Public Distribution System(PDS) and Panchayati Raj and end corruption.

Later talking to mediapersons, Mr Anjan said the election manifesto of SP was meant for the coming two decade while of the Congress it was just like ' kitchen without fire' or' hospital without drugs'.

Blaming the BJP for the present corruption in UP, he said party president Keshri Nath Tripathi had solely been responsible for making of the illegal government headed by Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav.

CPI is contesting around 22 assembly seats in the UP polls and has already announced candidates in 17 seats. The party has pre-poll alliance with the Janmorcha.

Nokia Siemens venture trims networks market outlook

HELSINKI, Apr 2 (Reuters) Nokia Siemens Networks trimmed its outlook for the mobile and fixed telecoms infrastructure market on Monday, forecasting only very slight growth in euro terms this year. Hyundai Motor March sales down 1.8 pct on exports

SEOUL, Apr 2 (Reuters) Hyundai Motor Co. , South Korea's top auto maker, said on Monday its March sales fell 1.8 percent on weaker exports. The figure comes amid worries that a slowing U.S. economy due to the subprime mortgage woes might hit demand from the world's top auto market. Evidence suggest Bob was strangulated: Shields

Kingston/London, Apr 2: Despite media reports that Bob Woolmer could have been poisoned to death, DCP Mark Shields stuck to his guns and said unreleased evidence established that the Pakistan coach was strangled to death. According to The Sun, Shields now believes that the burly 58-year-old Englishman was strangled after being subdued by poison or drugs. Sunday Mirror had reported that an anonymous caller, thought to be a Pakistani, tipped off Jamaica police that Woolmer was poisoned with aconite, a white powder used.....

Sri Lanka says civilian bus blast kills 14

Colombo, Apr 2: A suspected Tamil Tiger bomb hit a civilian bus in Sri Lanka's east today near an army camp, killing 14 people, a forces official said.However they said it was unclear whether the bus was hit by a roadside bomb or whether a bomb detonated inside the bus in the eastern district of Ampara.''There are 14 dead bodies. Bharti Airtel reduces ISD tariffs by up to 11 pc

New Delhi, Apr 2: Bharti Airtel today announced up to 11 per cent reduction in its International Long Distance (ISD) tarifs for its mobile customers in India.
