New Delhi, Mar 22 (UNI) Noting that carpenters earn better wages than managers in Saudi Arabia, Indian authorities plan to equip Indian youth with skills fit for the world market.
Addressing a day-long consultation on vocational education and training, Minister of State for Human Resource Development M A A Fatmi said, ''we need to impart skills'' to help youth gain ''self-employment.'' Fatmi acknowledged that ''at present, 92 per cent students are dropouts... even after so many years and after spending so much money.'' The meeting is intended to set directions and strategies for the eleventh five year plan.
Participants went over a policy option put together by Sunderlal Sharma of the Central Institute for Vocational Education which will be placed before the Planning Commission next month.
The meeting was sponsored by the National Council of Educational Research and Training in collaboration with GTZ, a German group for technical cooperation.
