Two more integrated textile parks approved

Chennai, Mar 22 (UNI) The Union Textiles Ministry has approved the setting up of two more integrated textiles parks in Tamil Nadu, involving a total investment of Rs 186 crore, taking the total number of such parks to be set up in the state to five and in the country to 30.

Giving this information to newspersons here, Union Minister of state for textiles E V K S Elangovan said his ministry had given the clearance last evening for the setting up of the parks in Madurai and Karur.

While the integrated park in Madurai would be set up at a total cost of Rs 87 crore, the park in Karur would be set up with Rs 98 crore. The Centre would grant a subsidy of Rs 35 crore and Rs 38 crore, respectively for the two parks.

He said the Madurai park would provide direct and indirect employment to 5000 people, while the integrated park in Karur would offer employment to 7,000 people.

Lands have been acquired and sheds were put up at textile parks, coming up in Palladam, Cuddalore, Perunthurai and Komarapalayam, he said adding the proposed parks in the country would have all the facilities for the weavers to make out end products and market the same.
