Mulayam orders financial relief to farmers hit by hailstorm

Lucknow, Mar 22 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today ordered for providing financial relief to farmers on a war-footing in view of losses caused to standing crop by hailstorm in various districts of the state recently.

Mr Yadav has asked Chief Secretary Shambhunath and principal secretary revenue V K Sharma and several other officials to put forward their proposal for financial relief within 24 hrs, after making district-wise assessment of losses caused to farmers by hailstorm and natural calamity.

This would facilitate the government to accord top priority to the interest of farmers and take a decision on making financial relief available to them, while apprising the Election Commission (EC) with the situation in this regard.

Financial relief would be distributed to affected farmers throughout UP soon after receiving the green signal in this regard from the EC.

No consular access to indians in Pak jail: Pranab

New Delhi, Mar 14:  The government today informed the Lok Sabha that at least 92 Indian civilian prisoners in Pakistani jails have yet not been given consular access."Besides 390 fishermen and 149 civilian prisoners and 74 PoWs are still languishing in Pakistani jails," External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in a written reply.The minister was asked whether the government had any reports of inhuman treatment meted out to Indian prisoners in Paksitan.The minsiter said Indian prisoners released by Pakistan had reported.....
