House concern over action of Assam Police inside Nagaland

Kohima, Mar 22 (UNI) The Nagaland Legislative Assembly today unanimously expressed concern over the frequent trespass of the Assam Police inside Nagaland territory.

Replying to a question of Congress's Takamasa Ao, Border Affairs Minister Khekiho Zhimomi informed the House that Assam Police personnel were frequently trespassing into Nagaland all along the border of both states.

''On February 18 Assam Police men came from Singibil area to a tea garden in Anaki village in Mokokchung district and forcibly took away four persons to the Geleky police station. They returned the same day and burnt down three houses and a tea nursery,'' Mr Zhimomi said. In a supplementary question Takamasa said such incidents were frequent in all the districts which share border with Assam, although the Supreme Court had constituted a Local Commission to look into the border dispute between the two states.

He demanded that the House condemn the action of the Assam Police. This was supported by Leader of Opposition I. Imkong.

In his reply Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed unhappiness over the actions of the Assam Police. He also expressed unhappiness over the action of the Neutral Force of CRPF, which was working under the direct command of Assam Police.
