Cabinet decides to hold election for Council Chairman post

Bangalore, Mar 22 (UNI) The Karnataka Cabinet today approved holding of election to the Legislative Council Chairman post which was lying vacant for the last nine months.

Briefing persons after the Cabinet meeting here, Minister for Primary and Higher Education Basavaraj Horatti said the Cabinet had decided to hold election and request Governor T N Chaturvedi to decide the date for it.

The JD(S) and BJP coalition government was taken to task by the Opposition Congress for not holding the election and a petition submitted to the Governor who later directed the Government to hold election immediately.

Mr Horatti said that the Cabinet approved a proposal by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to construct a peripheral road at a cost of Rs 1,400 Crore in the outskirts of the city.

Notification to this effect would be issued within 15 days, he added.

The Cabinet has also approved to recruit 3,300 teachers and regularise the services of 478 contract workers of Health Department, he added.
