6 dead, 5 injured in road accident

Krishnagore, Mar 22 (UNI) At least six people died and five were seriously injured in a road accident at NH 34 in Habibpur area under Ranaghat police station today.

Police said the mishap occured when a truck, loaded with marble slabs, turtled into a deep gorge nearby killing five persons on the spot.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. Of the six deceased, one succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, police said.

Police apprehended that the truck driver might have lost control.

The exact cause is yet to be ascertained.

The truck was on its way from Kolkata to Nabadweep, near here.

130 people dead in Rajasthan floods, Govt extends help

New Delhi, Aug 28: The Centre has extended all possible assistance to Rajasthan where as many as 130 people have died in the recent floods of which 103 were in Barmer district.Three naval teams have been sent to the state along with two Indian Air Force helicopters.
