Lucknow, Mar 21 (UNI) Scrutiny of the nomination papers filed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav was today stopped following allegations that he had ''misrepresented'' facts about his property in the papers.
Congress candidate Ajay Yadav had raised objections, claiming that the Chief Minister had ''misrepresented'' facts about his property in the nomination papers filed from the Bhartana seat in Etawah, Election Commission (EC) sources said.
Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav is contesting the assembly elections in the state from Bhartana (Etawah) and Gunnaur (Badaun).
Mr Ajay Yadav alleged that in the 2002 Lok Sabha elections, Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav had estimated his total assests at Rs 1.21 crore in his affidavit filed before the EC. He had contested the elections from the Mainpuri seat.
Talking to UNI over phone, Ajay Yadav, son of former SP leader Balram Singh Yadav, said the CM had estimated his assets at Rs five crore in the current affidavit. ''But in the affidavit filed before the Supreme Court by the CM, his assets have been estimated at Rs 30 crore,'' he added.
The EC Central Observer has, meanwhile, sent the details to the EC for a final decision.
Recently, the apex court had directed the CBI to carry out a preliminary inquiry into the assets of the CM and his kin following a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a Congress worker.
