Nandigram incidents complicated by Opposition: Brinda

Kolkata, Mar 21 (UNI) CPI(M) Politbureau member Brinda Karat today regretted the Nandigram incidents and accused the Opposition of ''complicating'' the situation.

''The March 14 incidents in Nandigram is a 'political conspiracy' and CPI(M) is trying to restore normalcy in that area but the Opposition parties have compounded the problem by carrying out disinformation campaign and misleading the people,'' she said while speaking at a sit-in of the CPI(M) supporters, driven out of Nandigram following political rivalry.

She said ''democracy cannot be a success in West Bengal without the Nandigram people and the Opposition parties are complicating the situation as they could not bear the people's verdict in favour of the Left Front in the last Assembly election.'' Meanwhile, All India CITU president M K Pandhe said here the government should go for ''collective understanding'' on land acquisition taking into account the people's opinion.

''The state needs industry which will solve the unemployment problem. But, SEZ should not be set up at the agricultural land, it should be set up in barren land,'' Mr Pandhe said in the sidelines of a memorial programme of CITU general secretary Chittabrata Majumder at Netaji Indoor stadium here.

He said the unemployment problem would not be solved without industry and the Opposition should not view it with the political outlook only.
