Meghalaya police to investigate into murder of domestic help

Shillong, Mar 21 (UNI) Newly appointed Meghalaya Director General of Police B K Dey Sawian today said the police will continue investigating the alleged murder of a female domestic help in the residence of his predecessor William Richmond Marbaniang.

'' We will continue to investigate into the case even after the government has decided to order a CBI probe,'' Mr Sawian told reporters here today.

Recently, the state government ordered a CBI inquiry and transferred state's DGP William Richmond Marbaniang as State Director General of Civil Defence and Home Guards following an the alleged murdere of 26-year-old Rinnehskhem Kharsohnoh in his residence on March 7.

The government's decision to hand over the investigation to the CBI came after the Civil Society Women's Organisation (CSWO) and several NGOs demanded an impartial probe into the mysterious death of Ms Kharsohnoh.

Mr Sawian, who took over from Mr Marbaniang, today also admitted that there is a rise of crime against women in the state. He, however, said that the state government has constituted a women cell to look into the matter.

Australian aid of $330,000 for HIV/AIDS progs in NE

New Delhi, May 22: Australia announced an additional aid of 330,000 USD for the HIV/AIDS and drugs prevention programmes in Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur and Mizoram.
