Lawyers' ceasework withdrawn

Basirhat, Mar 21 (UNI) Advocates of sub-divisional courts here resumed their service today after a 23-day ceasework, in protest of removal of some staff from the court complex, as the Bar Association and the Joint Committee of movement decided to withdraw the agitation.

Bar Association secretary Ajay Bose said the decision of withdrawal of ceasework was taken following an assurance from the district authorities, including the Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati, that the lawyers would be allowed to work sitting at the court complex so long a permanent arrangement for the staffs was not made.

Earlier, District Judge of North 24 Parganas Bandana Roy, District Magistrate Prabhat Mishra and Sabhadhipati Aprna Gupta conferred with the representatives of the Bar Association and the agitating lawyers on the prevailing situation as the ceasework caused sufferings for both the litigants and the advocates.

Taliban courts prove absence of Pak Government's writ in Swat: HRCP

Lahore, Jan 28 (ANI): The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has said that the Taliban's act of summoning politicians and citizens to their so-called Sharia Courts in Swat is a testimony to the absence of the state's writ in the area."Repeated official vows of regaining control of the situation in the Swat Valley have been exposed by the extremists' call to politicians to appear before their courts," HRCP said on Tuesday."The situation was worsened to this extent.....
