Bird flu in Pakistan alarms Gujarat

Gandhinagar, Mar 21 (UNI) The Gujarat animal husbandary department today issued orders to the concerned officers to take preventive measures against the possible spread of bird flu in the stare following the reported outbreak of the disease in neighbouring Pakistan.

According to an animal husbandary department source, ''As per the information available with us, H5N1 type of bird flue virus was detected in a peacock in a Pakistan zoo.'' ''Last year, when bird flu was found in Gujarat, we undertook sampling of birds. This year, too, we are being extra cautious in taking preventive measures,'' said the source.

''The action plan brought out by the Central government in this regard is being translated into Gujarati and will be circulated among the subordinates,'' the source added.

Centre to review Bengal bird flu

As many as 55 teams of the State Animal Resources Development Department have already been deployed in around 105 villages of the Birbhum district to check further spread of bird flu. The deadly disease broke out in Birbhum and South Dinajpur districts of West Bengal and later spread to some new areas.....
