Srinagar, Mar 18: Claiming that there is no public support to militants in Kashmir valley, a senior Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer said that the force was fully equipped and trained to meet any threat, including fidayeen attacks.
''The militancy has reached its last stage now as majority of the people are not supporting it because they want to live a peaceful life, CRPF's Deputy Inspector General (South Kashmir) Nalin Prabhat said.
The CRPF has recently taken over all counter-insurgency operations in the Kashmir valley from the Border Security Force (BSF).
Stressing there is no place for militants in a society where people want peace, development and prosperity, Mr Prabhat claimed the militants have lost public support as the latter know that violence has brought only death and destruction.
He said ten battalions of the CRPF took the charge of Kupwara and Baramulla districts in north Kashmir and Pulwama and Anantnag districts in south Kashmir. Six battalions would be deployed in north Kashmir while four in the south.
With this, a total of 59 battalions would be deployed in the valley, which is one-third of the total strength of the CRPF, he said.
When asked about the fidayeen (suicide) attacks, he said all those who fight against the system and kill innocent people are militants and will have to face the law of the land.
We have taken enough measures to fight against the fidayeen (members of the suicide squad), the DIG said, adding they could prevent major loses in such attacks but cannot stop them fully. "A fidayeen always have an advantage to attack any place since nobody knows when and where he strikes. But we now alert enough to foil such attacks," he said.
Mr Prabhat said all the CRPF personnel were given a month-long pre- induction training during which they were given lectures on Human Rights, briefed about the topography of the area they were being deployed in, besides security in Kashmir, the languages of the local people and climate.
He said during training the CRPF personnel were given lessons on how to deal with the common people during the counter-insurgency operations.
Though there were very few complaints of Human Rights violations against the CRPF, it was decided that no force personnel would be deployed without Human Rights knowledge.
''We take note of every complaint of HR violations and make clear that no violations will be tolerated'' he said.
The DIG said the CRPF will now have its own intelligence network, for which men were being trained.
About suicide cases in forces, the DIG said the jawans take this extreme step to end their lives due to family tensions.
We have already started Yoga and 'Art of Living' classes for jawans, he said.
