Pfizer sells Chandigarh property for Rs 278 cr

New Delhi, Mar 18: Pfizer Ltd, subsidiary of the US-based Pfizer Inc, has sold its property in Chandigarh for a total consideration of Rs 278 crore.

The company said it has already received an advance of 10 per cent of the proceeds, amounting to Rs 27.8 crore and the same was accounted in the quarter ended November 30, 2006.

The plant was sold on ''as is where is'' basis to C S J Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, it added. The assets comprised of land and building, plant and machinery, furniture and fixtures and movables.

The Chandigarh plant stopped operations in November 2003 and all the permanent employees had opted for Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS).

Gujarat Borosil to set up glass plant

New Delhi, Mar 18: Gujarat Borosil Ltd will invest Rs 40 crore to set up a figured glass plant at Gujarat.The plant, for which the company has received the approval of its board, will be established adjacent to the existing sheet glass plant of the company.The company is in negotiations with a foreign collaborator for technical know-how in this connection.UNI.....

Orthodox tea production to go up

Kolkata, Mar 18: To protect India's share in international tea market and substantially increaee the export volume, the Tea Board has decided to hike the production of Orthodox tea by 40 per cent in phases in next three to four years. This was informed here today by Union minister of State for Commerce and Industries Jairam Ramesh, while speaking to newsmen on the sidelines of a meeting on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to prevent HIV/AIDS in tea gardens......

Arcelor Mittal, Noble combine laser-welded biz

London, Mar 18: World's largest steel maker Arcelor Mittal said it will combine its laser-welded tailored blanks businesses, TBA, spread across India, China, western and eastern Europe and United States, with that of North America's largest laser-welded steel products producer Noble International, for 300 million dollars.The two companies have entered into a definitive agreement for the purpose.TBA is a leading European manufacturer of tailored blanks. Its business includes eight plants in Europe, one plant in the United.....
