Indo-Sino SMEs trade surplus to touch $ 6 bn in '07

New Delhi, Mar 18: The trade surplus between India and China is likely to reach six billion dollars with the growth in small and medium enterprises (SMEs), a Chinese official said.

''Bilateral trade between the two countries is increasing, specially imports by India, which drew four billion dollars last year and this year we expect it to go up to six billion dollars,'' Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province Deputy Director General Li Jiming told UNI here.

India imports phosphate fertilizers, heavy machineries and home appliances from China and exports cotton, iron ore, copper and tin, at a large number.

To further strengthen the Indo-Sino cross border trade, investment, economic and technical cooperation, Kunming province of South-West China is organising a commodities fair from June 6-10 this year.

The '15th China Kunming Commodities Fair' will be an opportunity for Indian SMEs to set up their businesses in China, Mr Jiming said.

To make it easier for the traders and the participants, Mr Jiming said special charter flights will be flying from Kolkata to Kunming and vice versa from June 4.

He also said regular flights from Kunming to Kolkata will start from July this year.
