Haryana signs MoU with Maryland on trade

Chandigarh, Mar 17:  The Haryana Government and Prince George's County of Maryland of the US today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for developing and providing support for working models of cooperation of trade alliances in the specific areas of clean and renewable sources of energy.

The MoU was signed by Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Office of the County Executive, Mr David J Byrd and Haryana Director of Industries and Commerce Department D R Dhingra in the presence of Haryana Governor A R Kidwai and Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in New Delhi today.

The MoU would especially cover the areas of production of solar cells, bio-technology, nano-technology and super computers, pharmaceuticals, testing and development of new drugs, manufacturing of automobile parts, electronic, scientific and medical instruments.

Some other areas to be covered were production of leather goods, textiles, hosiery and silk products, setting up of food processing industries, production of hybrid seeds and plant material, business process outsourcing (BPO) related to banking and insurance, business management and economics.

Dr Kidwai said with the execution of the MoU, a new era of economic development would usher in the Prince George's County of Maryland and Haryana.

Mr Hooda expressed the hope that the signing of the MoU would benefit both States and countries in the electronics and BPO sectors and its implementation would further strengthen the ties between them.

Study group constituted to examine extending life of Viraat

New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) A study group has been constituted to explore the feasibility of extending the service life of Indian Naval ship Viraat till 2012, the Lok Sabha was informed today. Centre denies W Bengal's proposal for tourism development

New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) The Centre has rejected a West Bengal Government's proposal for tourism development project called " Destinaton Plassey" as the project was not as per the guidelines.
