CPI(ML) to contest 35 Assembly seats in UP

Lucknow, Mar 17: Communist Party of India (Marxist-Lenninist) today announced to contest 35 seats in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections and Robertsganj Lok Sabha bypoll.

Announcing the names of all the candidates, party's state secretary Akhilendra Pratap Singh claimed that BSP would fail to provide dalits the power as both Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav and Ms Mayawati were on the same track.

Addressing a news conference here, Mr Singh said the main poll agenda of the party would be land reforms, poverty alleviation and reservation to the most backwards, including Muslims.

Speaking about the pre-poll alliance, he said the party will have no such truck with any party, but will support 'Janwadi' parties in rest of the seats.

Civil Aviation Ministry bans flight over Khajuraho shrines

Bhopal, Mar 16 (UNI) The Civil Aviation Ministry has banned flight over Khajuraho's world-renowned medieval-era temples and said that airline companies must include the directive in their standard operating procedures (SOPs). The World Heritage shrines, famous for Chandela-era erotic sculpture, have developed cracks due to vibration. Chautala slams Haryana budget

Chandigarh, Mar 16 (UNI) Former chief minister and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) supremo Om Parkash Chautala has slammed the Haryana Budget as ''directionless and disappointing for all sections of the society''. In a statement here, Mr Chautala said no relief had been given in the budget to peasantry, traders, employees, women and the youth. Consumers act being amended: Pawar

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The Consumer Protection Act is being amended to make it more dynamic, responsive and consumer friendly as well as the number of National Commission being increased from five to nine to further strengthen it. As a result of earlier amendments in the Act and Rules, the National Commission is now able to hold sittings in three benches and has also been holding sittings of its Circuit Benches in different cities, said Public Distributiion and Consumer Affairs.....

India, Singapore to step up cooperation in security

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) India and Singapore have decided to further expand cooperation in security matters. An agreement to this effect was reached at a meeting between Singapore Deputy Prime Minister S Jayakumar and Home Minister Shivraj Patil here yesterday. During the 40-minute long meeting at the North Block, the two leaders discussed several issues of bilateral interest and shared experience in fighting terrorism, policing big cities and maintaining social harmony. Three killed in brothel fire

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) Three people, including two women, were killed in an early morning fire at a brothel on G B Road in Central Delhi today. While two of the dead were identified as Farida (40) and Neetu (33), inhabitants of 'Building No 58', Sradhanand Marg, the identity of the third, who was a visitor to the brothel, is yet to be established, Fire Brigade sources said. Eight fire tenders battled for two hours before the blaze, which began.....
