Wanted "bureau puller" arrested

Chennai, Mar 16 (UNI) The City police arrested a wanted criminal, involved in several thefts and evading arrest for the last seven years at suburban Madipakkam last night, officials today said.

City Police Commissioner Letika Saran told mediapersons that a special team, formed to nab the culprit, spotted him at Madipakkam, However, on seeing the police party, he started running but the police chased and arrested him.

Mrs Saran said the arrested, identified as 30-year-old Nagamani, hailed from Gingee in Villupuram district, and was working as a construction worker.

The habitual offender was wanted in connection with 68 theft cases that took place in and around the city for the past several years.

Preliminary inquries revealed that Nagamani had stolen more than 750 sovereigns of gold ornaments besides other costly items, she said.

Mrs Saran said the modus operandi of the arrested was that with the help of an iron rod, he used to open windows and pulled the steel almirahs and bureaus near the window and removed the valuables when the inmates were fast asleep.

Infant's body found on Cauvery banks

Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, Mar 16 (UNI) The body of an infant boy was found wrapped in a dhoti on the banks of River Cauvery here today. Temple priest arrested with .38 bore pistol

Surat, Mar 17 (UNI) A temple priest, hailing from Patna, was arrested here after a country-made pistol and four cartridges were recovered from him, crime branch sleuths said. Rameshwardas Mudrikasingh (42), a native of Patna district in Bihar, was working as priest in the Hanuman temple at Asthik Nagar Society in Godadara for the last two months. Police got a tip-off that the accused had a countrymade pistol with him, which he hides inside his 'dhoti'. Police arrested him Thursday evening.....
