UPA govt has not gone soft on Quattrocchi: Anand Sharma

Shimla, Mar 16 (UNI) Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma today dismissed the NDA's charge of the UPA government going soft on Bofors accused Ottavio Quattrocchi.

Addressing a news conference here, the Minister said the UPA government had taken sincere steps for Quattrocchi's extradition.

He said the previous NDA government had also sent various teams to different countries in connection with the Bofors case but could not achieve anything during its six years in power at the Centre.

Nexus between ganja peddlers, naxals busted in AP

Warangal, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 4 (UNI) The district police today unearthed links between a ganja smuggling gang involved in arms smuggling and naxal groups with the arrest of 12 persons and seized of weapons and 250 kg of ganja from them. Speaking to newspersons here, district Superintendent of Police Soumya Mishra said the gang, in course of ganja smuggling activities, came into contact with arms suppliers in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar. They also developed links with various naxal.....

Bomb scare on Karnavati Express proves hoax

Surat, Feb 20 (UNI) A bomb scare on 2934 Ahmedabad-Mumbai Karnavati Express proved to be a hoax after the Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel conducted a thorough search of the train at the railway station here today. Railway Police sources said the Railway Police control room in Vadodara had received an anonymous call this morning, saying that a bomb had been planted in the Mumbai-bound Karnavati Express. The Vadodara control room immediately informed the matter to the Surat Railway.....

Rupee closes three months low at 44.63/64, down by 34 paise

Mumbai, Mar 5 (UNI) The rupee today closed to three months low at 44.63/64 per US dollar, with a major loss of 34 paise, from the previous day's close of 44.29/30 on sustained heavy buying of dollars by big operators. The domestic unit fell to its lowest level against the USD after another slide in the local stocks sparked fears of capital outflows. The partially-convertible rupee weakened to 44.64 per USD, mirroring weak Asian currencies, before ending at 44.63/64, 0.8.....
