UP BJP candidates list, fairest ever consensus choice: Kalyan Singh

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) BJP's chief ministerial candidate in Uttar Pradesh Kalyan Singh said selection of party candidates was through a consensus and it was the fairest ever selection in a democratic process.

Distancing himself from reports he was feeling ignored in the process, Mr Singh told newspersons during a democratic selection, different views are bound to be aired.

''However once the choice is made by unanimity, it is binding on all and there was no unhappiness of any sort in the party,'' he said in the presence of BJP state observer M Venkaiah Naidu.

Mr Singh who had promised not to field any candidate with criminal records said as per his knowledge, there was no candidate with criminal record or with mafia link in the list.

Mr Naidu said as far as the selection was concerned, it was totally the choice of the state unit as most of the candidates were the lone choice. This was the reason the selection of 317 candidates spanning the seven phase polling took place in a single sitting two days ago.

The party will come out with its second list in a couple of days, he added.

The state unit was setting its own agenda, issues to be focussed according to needs. The Central leadership will only be lending a helping hand, Mr Naidu said.

Answering a question about the displeasure expressed by BJP MP from Gorakhpur Yogi Adityanath who quit his National Executive membership to protest against his supporters being ignored, Mr Naidu said the party was discussing the isue with him.

To a question about BJP President Rajnath Singh's son Pankaj Singh declining to contest in spite of being offerred a seat, Mr Naidu replied you will come to know about it soon.

Asked if the party would effect changes in view of the developments like Yogi Adityanath's resignation, Mr Naidu said the list was 'final' and will not be changed.
