Two killed in police firing in Bihar

Patna, Mar 16 (UNI) At least two persons were killed and several injured today when police opened fire to disperse an unruly mob indulging in arson and damaging public property at Matihani block in Begusarai district.

Police said some anti-socials tried to disturb the scheduled programme of distributing ration coupon to those living below poverty line, and in the process the hooligans ransacked the block office before setting fire to the building.

Since repeated warning to refrain from violence failed to yield any result, police ultimately resorted to firing to disperse the violent mob, police added.

Man sentenced to life for killing a minor

Balasore, Mar 16 (UNI) Balasore District Additional Sessions Judge P Das today sentenced Mayadhar Sur (49) to life imprisonment on charges of killing Sangram Behera(8) of Palasia under Basta police station on May 6, 2000. According to the prosecution, the convict had inflicted multiple injuries on the victim by a sharp weapon while the boy was on his way to a Shiva temple. The victim succumbed to the injuries on the way to hospital. UNI.....

Rs four lakhs looted in Aurangabad

Aurangabad, Mar 16 (UNI) Unidentified criminals today looted Rs four lakhs from the possession of the manager of a nationalised bank at Haibaspur village under Haspura police station in the district. Police said three motorcycle criminals looted the amount from the manager of Deokund branch of the Punjab National Bank when he was on way to his office after withdrawal of the cash from Panchrukhiya branch of the same bank. Raids were on nab the criminals and recover the cash, police.....

Water supply has resumed in the city since last night

Agartala, Feb 26 (UNI) Drinking water supply has resumed in the city since last night, after three days of suspension owing to pollution in the Howrah river. People had, earlier, fallen ill and at least 10 had been admitted to the hospital after drinking the polluted water from the Howrah river. The river water was, reportedly, polluted by chemicals disposed from a paint factory in Kashipur. The owner of the factory was arrested and held in police custody for two weeks......
