Student drowns at well in TN

Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, Mar 16 (UNI) A 20-year-old first year Polytechnic student was drowned at a irrigation well at Cheyyar near here yesterday.

Police said the mishap occurred when the student Keerthi, who was studying in a private Polytechnic here and residing in its hostel, went to take his bath at the well.

Based on the information, a police team rushed to the spot, fished out the deceased body and sent it for post-mortem,police added.

Visitor and business visas to Australia up by eight per cent

Chennai, Mar 16 (UNI) Issuance of visitor and business visas to Australia has registered a ten and eight per cent growth, respectively last year, Ms Sonya Boylan, Second Secretary (Immigration), Australian High Commission in India, said today. K'taka CS may be asked to appear before NHRC

Bangalore, Mar 14 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission will call for an explanation from the Karnataka Chief Secretary on the State's failure to implement its direction with regard to payment of compensation to the victims of atrocities perpetrated by the Special Task Force (STF), formed to nab forest brigand Veerappan. Sri Lankan Airlines to fly flights to Jeddah from Kerala

Kochi, Mar 16 (UNI) Spreading its wingspan, Sri Lankan Airlines, the international airlines with the largest network in India, will launch its twice daily flight to Jeddah from Kerala. Speaking to newspersons here last night, Manager of Kerala Operations Samantha Nagahawatte said the flights would originate from three destinations in the state-- Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode every Tuesday and Friday. He said the new services, to be operational by March 27, would help in handling the regular 'Umrah' movement to Jeddah,.....
