Stage set for Council elections in AP

Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 16 (UNI) The district administration today made necessay arrangemnts for the conduct of free and fair elections to the Legislative Coundil seats under the Local authority Constituency(LAC), teachers and graduate constituencies in 298 polls stations to be held tomorrow.

Candidates contesting from the East Rayalaseema constituency comprising Chittoor, Nellore and Prakasam for one seat each under the teachers and graduates quota have notched up their campaign which ended yesterday.

As for the teachers seat, there are 12 contestants, while it there 31 contestants under the graduates constituency.

A total of 14,638 voters had registered their names in the teachers constituency and the highest voters were recorded in Chittoor district (6,159) followed by Prakasam (4,276) and Nellore (4,023).

In the graduate constituency, 1,61,124 voters had registered their names and Chittoor tops the list with 59,147 voters, followed by Prakasam (54,032) and Nellore (47,945), an official source said here.

In view of huge coverage of the area constituency, contesting candidates were forced to focus their poll campaign only in their respective native districts.

Polling would be held from 0800 hrs to 1600 hrs and counting of local bodies would take place on March 23 and teachers and graduates on March 25, the official added.

As a precautionary measure, elaborate security arrangements were made in and around the towns in the district.

Panchayat elections in Orissa end peacefully

Make Panchayat election expenditure public-OGP

Bhubaneswar, Feb 21 (UNI) Orissa Gana Parishad (OGP) president Bijaya Mohapatra today demanded election expenditures of all the candidates for the Panchayat elections, which concluded today, be made public. Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Mohapatra claimed the expenditure of elections to the three-tier bodies in Orissa was the costliest than the Lok Sabha and the Assembly elections. Election campaign for third phase concludes today

Imphal, Feb 21 (UNI) Massive security arrangements have been made for the third and final phase of elections in Manipur on February 23, as campaigning ends at 1530 hours today. Chief Electoral Officer R R Rashmi said the third phase of elections would be held at Tamenglong, Chandel and Churachandpur districts.
