Six injured in a blast in Asom

Guwahati, Mar 16 (UNI) At least six people were injured, one of them critically, when an explosion rocked a motor-cycle parking lot beside the busy AT Road in the heart of the city today.

At least 12 motorcycles were burnt in the fire, which engulfed the area following the blast.

Police suspect the hand of the banned ULFA behind the explosion, which took place in front of Bishwa Ratna Hotel.

The bomb was probably planted in one of the motor-cycles, parked in the area.

An LPG cylinder also exploded in the area under the impact of the blast.

Senior police officials of the city rushed to the spot immediately after the explosion and the area was cordoned off.

A manhunt was launched in the city to nab the culprit.

The injured were admitted to Guwahati Medical College Hospital here.

No mood to discuss presidential election: Kalam

Mamata urges PM to visit Nandigram

Kolkata, Mar 16 (UNI) Alleging that the magnitude of Nandigram mayhem was huge, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to visit the area for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation. "The Prime Minister should personally visit Nandigram to know what happened instead of taking account of a party. He should talk to the injured people and their families," she told reporters. Shillong, Mar 16 (UNI) President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam today said Atomic Energy Division provides clean power from uranium and the solar system.
