Senior Police Inspector of Kherwadi Police station Traps

Mumbai, Mar 16 (UNI) The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a Senior Police Inspector of Kherwadi police station here while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 and a Black lebal liquor bottle for registering a case against the complainant.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Vilas Tupe told UNI that on March four, a group of youth had gone to the owner of Hero country liquor bar and demanded Rs 1500 as donation for celebration of holi. When the hotel owner refused to give the said amount, they ransacked the bar to which those working in the bar retaliated.

A complaint in this regard was lodged by the bar owner with Kherwadi police station, Brandra. However the police picked 11 employees' of the bar and they were detained for a day.

When the bar owner went to the police station with a request to release the boys, the accused Anand Bapusaheb Chavan (56) of Kherwadi Police station demanded Rs five lakh so as not to register a rioting case against them. While the deal was fixed at Rs one lakh. The hotel owner agreed to pay the amount in instalments and simultaneously, he registered a complaint with ACB office, worli.

This morning at around 1000 hours when the bar owner went to pay the first instalment of Rs 20,000 and a black label liquor bottle to Chavan in his chamber at Kherwadi police station, the ACB sleuth nabbed him red-handed.

House search of the accused is going on and he will produced in ACB special court tomorrow for remand, Mr Tupe added.

Modi to inaugurate Sainik Bhavan in Jamnagar

Rajkot, Mar 16 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new 'Sainik Bhavan' building at Jamnagar tomorrow. Built at a cost of Rs 52 lakh by the Phulchhab-Janmabhoomi Group of Newspapers under Sainik Welfare Fund, the two-storey building consists of 21 rooms and a community hall for the personnel of three wings of Defence forces including ex-servicemen, widows of ex-servicemen and dependents of deceased Defence personnel. The Sainik Bhavan will be used for the benefit of families of ex-servicemen......

Opp members stage walk out on residential school issue

Mumbai, Mar 16 (UNI) Members of the opposition today staged a walk out in Legislative Council, alleging the government was doing hardly anything on the issue of teachers of residential schools in the State. However, school education minister Vasant Purke assured the house that it has set up a committee to look into the matter. The issue was raised by leader of the opposition Pandurang Phundkar during question hour and said the teachers are paid less than Rs 1,000 per month.....

SMC begins cleaning of Tapi river
