Rs 9447 crore spent on Rural Roads, Rs 6331 crore on housing

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The government has spent Rs.9447.25 crore on Rural Roads, Rs.6330.97 crore on Rural Housing and Rs.10535.38 crore on Drinking Water Supply during 2005-06 and 2006-07, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

The three components of Bharat Nirman i.e. Rural Roads, Rural Houses and Drinking Water Supply are being implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development.

The expenditure incurred on Rural Housing and Drinking Water Supply includes the States share also whereas Rural Roads is a 100% Centrally Sponsored Scheme, Minister of State for Rural Development Suryakanta Patil said in a written reply.

Though the funds under these programmes are spent/utilised through different programme implementing agencies, the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) are actively involved in preparation of projects/plans of above three components of Bharat Nirman as specified in the guidelines of the respective programmes such as for allotment of a house, BPL family is selected by the Gram Sabha, for preparation of Plan for rural roads PRIs are actively involved. Similarly under the programme of Rural Drinking Water Supply, the Panchayats and Village Water and Sanitation Committees have been assigned the role of selection of location for drinking water source, its operation and maintenance etc.

Hema takes up slum dwellers cause in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) Film star Hema Malini today took up the slum dwellers cause in the Rajya Sabha bringing in 'The Jhuggi, Jhopri, Slums and Pavement Dwellers(Basic Amenities, Welfare and Miscellabeous Provision) Bill, 2006. The legislation is aimed at providing basic amenities like drinking water, sanitation, electricity, healthcare to dwellers of these areas. The Bill also seeks to ensure that the slums and pavement dwellers were not removed without providing for their proper rehabilitation. Ms Malini also introduced.....

Wheat procurement price raised to Rs 850

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) Stung by last year's low procurement of wheat, which forced the country to go in for record imports, the Government today announced an all-time high bonus of Rs 100, raising the Minimum Support Price to Rs 850 per quintal for the coming Rabi crop. This is an increase of Rs 150 over last year's price of Rs 700 (Rs 650+Rs 50 bonus) per quintal of wheat. After exporting foodgrains for the previous three years, India.....

LS adjourned TILL 1230 hrs over Nandigram violence

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) The Lok Sabha was adjourned for a second time today till 1230 hrs amid noisy scenes as the Opposition NDA stalled the procedings of the House, demanding dismissal of the West Bengal Government over the Nandigram issue.
