Power companies failed to check T

Jaipur, Mar 16 (UNI) The power sector reforms in Rajasthan failed to deliver in reducing transmission and distribution losses in the state.

The latest CAG report pointed out that ''the power companies formed after unbundling the RSEB to create conditions of sustainable development of the power sector by improving efficiency and viability of operations could not be achieved due to failure of the power companies to reduce T&D losses''.

The report said the transmission losses of Rajasthan Rajya Vidut Prasaran Nigan Ltd (RRVPNL) ranged from 6.01 to 8.15 per cent against the norm of 4 per cent while distribution losses of distribution companies ranged from 34.06-45.51 per cent against the norm of 11.5 per cent during 2000-01 to 2004-05.

''The Transmission and distribition losses in excess of the norm of 15.5 per cent was Rs 11,624.80 crore and the consumers had to bear additional burden of Rs 4,183.57 crore in the form of tarrif equivalent to 17 per cent of the average tarrif for the year 2004-05''.

3 pilgrims injured in road accident

Tirumala, Mar 5 (UNI) Three pilgrims were injured, one of them seriously, when the car in which they were travelling hit a parapet wall on the Tirumala-Tirupati road here today. Police said the mishap occurred when they were coming down to Tirupati after visiting Venkateswara Swamy Temple here. Of the six occupants of the car, two escaped unhurt. The seriously injured Srinivas Rao, hailing from Kukatpalli in Hyderabad, was admitted to Government Ruia Hospital in Tirupati. UNI.....

Punjab govt asks for industrial incentives for border areas

Chandigarh, Mar 16 (UNI) The Punjab government has urged the Union government to provide incentives to the industrial units in border and sub mountaineous areas of the state on the pattern of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. In a communique sent today to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, state Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal pointed out that this incentive could give a fillip to industrial development in the state. Regarding other pending issues with the Centre, Mr Badal urged.....

TDP stages dharna

Chittoor, Mar 5 (UNI) Lashing out at the state government for failing to get adequate allocations for the state in both railway and general Budgets, Telugu Desam Party activists observed dharnas in front of the Railway stations at various places in Chittoor district today. About 50 TDP activists led by district Telugu Yuvuta General Secretary Sridar Varma and district party Secretary B V Ramana gathered at the Railway station and staged a dharna for more than half an hour in Thirupathi......
