PMRP for massive infrastructure development: Azad

Jammu, Mar 16 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said the state is recieving massive financial support under the Prime Minister's reconstruction plan for public infrastructure development.

Mr Azad was chairing a high level meeting to get detailed appraisal of each and every scheme taken in hand under the Prime Minister's reconstruction plan. He said major projects in power, roads, tourism, healthcare, education and agriculture sectors launched under the plan will help in a big way to realise the dream of greater prosperity and development in the state.

The Chief Minister asked the departments to ensure completion within targeted time period.

Referring to inter-district and inter-provincial road communication structure being established and upgraded under the reconstruction plan, he said this would prove to be a hub for socio-economic upliftment of the far-off areas, connecting these with main highways.

A number of senior officials attended the meeting.

Ban on arrack, farmloan waiver key points of Kar Budget

Tax exemption on foodgrains, pulses to continue

Bangalore, Mar 16 (UNI) Tax exemption on rice, paddy and wheat will continue for one more year, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced today. Presenting the budget in the Assembly, Mr Yediyurappa, who also holds the Finance portfolio, said the exemption would also continue for products of rice and wheat, and pulses to help the common man. Tax on rubber tyres and tubes of tractors, software licenses and used motor vehicles would be reduced from 12.5 per cent.....

AP police stations on red alert after Bastar attack

Hyderabad, Mar 16 (UNI) Following the naxal attack on a police post at Bastar in Chhattisgarh which killed 54 policemen yesterday, police stations located on the Andhra Pradesh-Chhattisgarh border at Warangal and Khammam districts were put on red alert. Police sources said all roads leading to police stations were blocked near the border areas to prevent any large-scale attack similar to the Bastar incident.
