PDK holds demo against National Security Act

Chennai, Mar 16 (UNI) Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) activists today staged a demonstration here today protesting the 'repressive' National Security Act.

The demonstrators shouted slogans against the Tamil Nadu Government for allegedly detaining seven of its volunteers for the last 100 days under the Act.

They termed the DMK Government's action as totally against Periyar EVR's idealogy, that too, when Chief Minister M Karunanidhi very often claimed there was Periyar rule in Tamil Nadu.

They sought the immediate release of party volunteers.

Puducherry,Mar 16(UNI) India has applied for a membership in Washington Accord with the support of the UK, Australia and Canada, chairman of All India Council of Technical Education Chairman Damodal Acharya said here today. Speaking at the convocation ceremony of the Pondicherry Engineering College here this evening, Prof Acharya said he was hopeful of getting provisional membership now and permanent membership in another two years. Three killed, 2 seriously injured in road accident

Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 16 (UNI) Three people were killed on the spot and two others seriously injured when an autorickshaw in which they were travelling collided with a speeding truck near Piduguralla in this district this evening. The deceased were identified as autodriver M Punnarao(24), M Bujji (23) and M Varaprasad (25), police said. Train blasts claimed 272 lives in last three years

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) As many as 272 passengers have lost their life in train explosions during the last three years, the Government told the Rajya Sabha today. Since 2004, seven bomb blasts have taken place and 15 persons had been arrested in this connection, Minister of State for Railway R Velu told the House.
