Panther falls in well, rescued

Jaipur, March 16 (UNI) A panther fell into a well here today morning, leading to panic in the area.

The feline was rescued by zoo officials later.

According to police, a panther, which strayed from the forests into the Ghat ki Ghuni area, fell into a 15 m deep well near Green Petrol pump around 0800 hrs in the morning. However the well was dry.

Zoo and forest officials arrived to rescue the panther, but it took them four hours, even after they used tranquilisers to sedate the animal.

This incident is an addition to the recent forays of wildlife into bustling city localities, creating a panic among the residents.

In the past few days, a hyena was seen crossing the runway in Sanganer Airport.

Earlier, a panther was seen in a Kendriya Vidyalaya school in Bajaj Nagar, making the authorities order the school's closure.

Wildlife experts say the recent rise of wildlife animals venturing into human habitations is due to the depleting forest areas on the outskirts of the city.
